UN Women supports the process of developing the next National Action Plan “Women, Peace and Security” for the period 2026-2030
Date:

The first strategic session on the development of the National Action Plan “Women, Peace and Security” until 2030 in pursuance of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 was held in Kyiv on March 28, 2025. The purpose of the session was to identify the key areas and objectives of the next plan, as well as to formulate clear indicators by which its implementation can be assessed.
Ninety participants (77 women and 13 men) representing state institutions, civil society, international organizations, and the expert community in the fields of gender equality, security, and post-conflict recovery joined a broad, inclusive dialogue.
The proposed strategic goals of the next National Action Plan include ensuring equal participation of women and men in decision-making related to security and post-war recovery; creating a gender-sensitive system for identifying and responding to security challenges; implementing a comprehensive approach to post-conflict recovery based on the principle of equal rights and opportunities; and strengthening protection for victims of conflict-related sexual violence.

During the opening of the statistical session, Kateryna Levchenko, Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, and Iryna Postolovska, Deputy Minister of Social Policy for European Integration, emphasized the importance of implementing the National Action Plan “Women, Peace, Security” as a key state policy document aimed at integrating gender approaches into security, defense and post-conflict reconstruction and the important role of interagency partnership.
Cornelius Nolen, UN Women's WPS Specialist, noted that for 8 years now, one of the key areas of UN Women's work has been to support the Government of Ukraine, regional and local authorities in fulfilling their state commitments on gender equality and women's rights, as well as to promote the constructive and meaningful participation of women's groups and civil society organizations in supporting authorities at all levels to localize the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
“The year 2025 marks 30 years since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and 25 years since the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325. This is an opportunity to assess the progress made and renew our commitment to building the capacity of partners and advancing women's empowerment to achieve a gender-inclusive future for Ukraine,” said Cornelius Nolen.

UN Women organized this Strategic session at the request of and in partnership with the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the Government Commissioner for Gender Equality Policy, in cooperation with the Women’s Information and Consultative Center, within «Women increased leadership for resilient and peaceful societies» project with the financial support from the Governments of Denmark.
