What we do
In line with its mandate, UN Women streamlines work aimed at achieving true gender equality, promoting equal opportunities for women and men, combating gender-based violence, and accelerating women’s economic empowerment.
Women’s leadership and participation in decision-making
Women, peace, and security
The war in Ukraine that erupted in 2014 followed by the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022 has exacerbated pre-existing gender and intersectional inequalities and discrimination. UN Women works to enable women’s meaningful participation in solutions and decision-making, including after the war, fully involved in recovery and reconstruction and maintaining peace.
Ending violence against women and girls
Women’s economic empowerment
Fighting gender stereotypes
Created by UN Women, HeForShe is a solidarity movement for gender equality that invites men and boys as allies for a more equal world. In Ukraine, HeForShe movement has been engaging men and boys in gender equality advocacy and includes more than 50 strategic partnerships with academia, the media, the private sector, and government entities.
As part of our mandate, UN Women supports Member States in setting norms. We conduct research, and compile and provide evidence, including good practices and lessons learned, to inform intergovernmental debates and decisions. We also assist in implementing norms and standards through our country programmes.
