UN Women Ukraine, with support from the United Nations Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), has allocated USD 5,6 million in 2025 to support 40 women’s organizations across Ukraine. Since the announcement of significant international funding cuts at the beginning of 2025, these organizations have been implementing or continuing to implement 45 projects addressing the urgent needs of women and girls amid Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to the Rapid Assessment of the Impact of the U.S. Funding Suspension on Ukrainian Women’s Organizations, conducted in February 2025 by UN Women, the Apparatus of the Government Commissioner for Gender Equality Policy of Ukraine and the Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group, many women’s organizations in Ukraine have been severely affected. They were forced to reduce staff, suspend activities, address unpaid invoices or face the risk of being unable to meet contractual obligations. These challenges have created serious obstacles that threaten the continuity of emergency response, humanitarian and development initiatives across the country.
Despite these and other constraints, UN Women Ukraine and WPHF remain committed to ensuring the continuity of women’s organizations, whose work is critical to meeting the urgent and evolving needs of women and girls amid Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The 40 organizations supported work across key, life-saving areas, including:
- mental health and psychosocial support
- protection of the rights of the most vulnerable population groups
- prevention of and response to violence against women and girls, including gender-based violence (GBV) and conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV)
- humanitarian assistance and evacuation support
- women’s leadership development
- institutional capacity strengthening of civil society organizations
Since 2022, WPHF and UN Women Ukraine have channelled more than USD 26 million to support 100 women’s organizations in Ukraine. Through this support, more than 150,000 women and girls across the country have gained access to essential services, protection and empowerment opportunities.
Today, women’s organizations require sustained financial support to continue their work amid Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. UN Women Ukraine and WPHF will continue to advocate for women’s organizations and do everything possible to ensure they can operate, grow and contribute to the country’s resilience and recovery.
